Human brain is an excellent natural computer performing important information processing such as seeing(vision), listening(audition), and understanding languages and motion-controlling.
In our laboratory, we focus our interests on the modeling of these information processing(biological information engineering). In the sense of engineering, we try to analyze mechanisms of human information processing, and to realize them on computer systems as
computer vision,
computer audition,
natural language processing.
Furthermore, the understanding of these functions also help in enhancing the development in the field of medical and rehabilitation engineering, with aims of realizing sensory substitution systems for visually or auditorily handicapped persons.
